The hustle and bustle of city life can often leave us feeling disconnected from nature. However, with the help of planters, you can transform your urban landscape.

As towns and cities continue to grow, the challenge of meeting all the needs of residents and visitors may seem overwhelming. Adding planters and greenery is a simple yet effective way of creating a more inviting space that provides benefits all year round.

The Importance of Greenery in Urban Areas

At Broxap, we are strong believers in the importance of gardening.

Adding greenery doesn’t just create a pretty view; it also positively affects towns and cities as a whole by:

  • Offsetting heat from paved surfaces and decreasing noise pollution.
  • Improving air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen.
  • Improving public health by reducing smog, smoke, dust, CO2, and other pollutants.
  • Preventing soil erosion and stormwater runoff.
  • Providing economic benefits to property owners; investing in landscaping can potentially boost property values.
  • Increasing biodiversity and providing a better habitat for wildlife.
  • Enhancing the aesthetic appeal of urban areas and improving mental health.
  • Providing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

Seated Planters

Manufactured at our Stoke-on-Trent fabrication plant, our range of Seated Planters are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Our appealing range can transform an open space with stunning results, whether for a calm town centre or a busy city high street.

We designed andmanufactured a selection of our Oswestry Planters in the heart of Shropshire

Flower Baskets

The theme for National Gardening Week in 2024 is ‘Knowledge is Flower’, which makes our range of Flower Baskets very fitting. From fuchsias to petunias to geraniums, you can fill our range of flower basket planters with a variety of beautiful flowers to add a pop of colour to your local high street.

Our Manchester Flower Baskets transformed Stafford Town into a blossoming space.

Timber Planters

Our range of Timber Planters brings a natural charm to any outdoor environment. Timber brings a touch of warmth to any landscape, seamlessly blending with the surrounding greenery. You can take advantage of their large capacity by filling them with trees, rose bushes, or even a selection of herbs!

A selection of our Longley Planters elevated the outdoor area at York House in Windsor.

Fibreglass Planters

Composite moulded fibreglass is the perfect material for Fibreglass Planters as it is waterproof, long-lasting, and requires minimal maintenance. Fibreglass planters are inherently frost-resistant and can expand and contract during cold winter months due to their general elasticity.

A Corona Modular Circular Planter adds a pop of colour to any space

National Gardening Week

National Gardening Week 2024 runs from April 29th to May 5th by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

They have some wonderful suggestions for ways to celebrate National Gardening Week alone or as a group. Our favourite ideas involve the community through gardening projects, such as nurturing a neglected space in your area or organising activities in a park.

At Broxap, we’re big on going green. In addition to engineering our products to BREEAM’s standards, care is taken in our own construction projects at our North Staffordshire base to minimise environmental impact. Through our sustainable manufacturing processes, we are able to create high-quality and hard-wearing street furniture, including planters, that can help transform cities and towns into greener spaces.

Britain In Bloom

If you want to extend National Gardening Week activities into the long term, consider getting involved with Britain in Bloom.

Celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2024, the British Tourist Board created this ongoing, nationwide gardening competition in 1963 to promote different regions. It is now organised by the RHS, and the focus remains on local pride and environmental beauty.

The competition is a powerful tool for building communities and tackling local issues together.

Britain in Bloom announces each year’s finalists in January, with judging taking place throughout August. Last year, in 2023, Newcastle-under-Lyme were awarded RHS gold and the accolade of Overall Winner of the Britain in Bloom competition!

As a street furniture company born and bred in the heart of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Broxap is very proud to work together towards the common goals of beautifying public spaces, promoting environmental sustainability and community pride.

Darren Share, Chair of the RHS Britain in Bloom judges, said: “Newcastle-under-Lyme showed great vision and purpose. Concern for the environment and encouraging wildlife is at the heart of everything they do. We judge groups according to horticulture, environmental and community engagement criteria and the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme scored highly across all three areas”.
