Broxap were invited to tender for the works and were subsequently awarded the contract to remove their existing canopy on Osborne Street and manufacture & install a new canopy along with signage, lighting and associated seating. This was to form a key element to their new bus station and to make a striking visual impact. It needed to offer high quality levels of comfort to the user whilst considering security & community safety requirements and to be fully inclusive to all.

In addition to the Canopy required for Osborne Street, The Council required their new bus station to feature a secure, covered and well-lit passenger waiting lounge with seating.

Broxap liaised with Colchester Council, Essex County Council, their Architects and stakeholders to ensure their concept designs were practical, suited the needs required by all parties and was manufactured and installed to very strict deadlines. Broxap took full control of the project from its inception and successfully achieved all of the stakeholders objectives.

The facility is also equipped with electronic timetable screens and information pods. The touch-screen information pods offer assistance with journey planning, and also allow passengers to access a variety of information about the town. The pods also enable blind and partially-sighted passengers to access audio announcements.

Prior to the Bus Stations opening Councillor Lyn Barton said:

“We are looking forward to the opening of Colchester’s new bus station. I am particularly pleased that we have been able to incorporate all the key elements requested by residents, ensuring a good quality facility.”
