Recent research by East Ayrshire Council (EAC) shows that families in East Ayrshire throw away more than £450 worth of food every year. The statistics also show that food waste collected from homes and commercial premises accounts for more than 40 per cent of the authority's carbon footprint.

When food waste isn't recycled, carbon dioxide is released. Carbon dioxide is one of the most damaging greenhouse gases and has a significant impact on the climate emergency.

Broxap recently collaborated with the community in East Ayrshire to implement a project addressing food waste management. We designed and manufactured 61 new specialised food waste wheelie bin covers, a collective initiative aimed at promoting responsible waste disposal and enhancing the overall cleanliness of the area.

As part of the project, we also supplied the 61 140L wheelie bins inside the housing, catering to the community's specific waste disposal needs.

All the food waste wheelie bin covers are manufactured from galvanised steel and powder coated with our advanced Eco-Friendly PROTEX Powder Coating System to ensure durability and environmental sustainability.

Each bin has a front-opening food waste hopper, allowing residents to dispose of food waste conveniently and hygienically. The sloped lid on the bin cover also prevents water ingress, keeping the surrounding areas cleaner for longer.

The food waste wheelie bin covers feature personalised graphics to identify and differentiate the bins. These clearly communicate the purpose of the bins and promote proper waste disposal.

To ensure stability and secure positioning, the bins were supplied with internal concrete ballast, to effectively weigh them down and minimise the risk of displacement.

The introduction of food waste wheelie bin covers has significantly improved food waste management practices within the area.

Broxap's implementation of the food waste wheelie bin covers has demonstrated its commitment to innovative and sustainable waste management solutions.
