A transformational project designed to bring economic benefits to Shrewsbury has been completed with the addition of new seating, litter bins and planters.
The latest phase of the Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Package (SITP) included improvements to pavements, crossing points, road signs and road surfaces.
Working for Shropshire Council’s contractor McPhillips (Wellington) Limited, the Streetscene team at Broxap Street Furniture was asked to supply a large number of benches and seats to further enhance the visitor experience.
This included a bespoke steel and timber bench which was designed to fit around an electrical cabinet. The high-backed seat perfectly frames the cabinet which features a colourful mural as part of an art trail around the town.
In addition, Broxap supplied nine Desford I benches constructed using FSC certified Iroko timber on a galvanised and polyester powder coated steel frame.
A further 16 benches were manufactured to a specified reduced size.
Nine planters, featuring the same planed and sanded hardwood style, were delivered along with six Derby Standard Litter Bins complete with self-closing ash trays.
The SITP is a £12 million externally funded scheme which aims to reduce the volume of traffic through the historic town centre and improve the reliability of journey times for visitors and commuters.
Under the latest phase, old sandstone seats were removed and replaced with the Desford I designs to complement previous street furniture improvements in the Pride Hill area of the town in 2019.
