Waltham Forest Town Hall, London

The vision for the development of Waltham Forest Town Hall was to open the site and make it more welcoming to the public by providing new accessible seating and pedestrian and cycle routes to promote easy movement through the neighbourhood.

The area surrounding Waltham Forest Town Hall blends contemporary architecture and sustainable design, with the main 19th-century building featuring a stately white exterior and intricate architectural details.

In October 2019, the area around the town hall underwent a major renovation, improving the landscape with water fountains, night-time lighting, and a reflection pool. The town hall renovation was completed in 2021, with changes including the creation of Fellowship Square and the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Garden at the rear of the building, complete with a sculpture of The Arch by Henry Moore.

To complement the architecture, Broxap designed and manufactured a range of timber and steel seating throughout the communal area, enhancing the appeal and functionality of the outdoor spaces.

The range of benches, seats and stools are made from high-quality timber and reinforced with durable, galvanised steel. The FSC-certified timber brings a warm, natural element to the environment, while the steel provides a modern contrast and ensures longevity.

Strategically placed along walkways and shaded corners, the seating offers residents numerous spots to relax, socialise, and enjoy the outdoor scenery. It also encourages spontaneous social interactions, helping to build a friendly and cohesive neighbourhood atmosphere.
