The passenger experience has been improved at West Bromwich Bus Station thanks to a major refurbishment programme.
Broxap Street Furniture carried out the removal and replacement of 40 seats and 22 bins under a framework agreement working for West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).
The project at West Bromwich Bus Station was the fourth bus station concourse refurbishment in the region we completed as part of the overall £400,000 contract.
Our teams worked diligently to consider live commuter traffic throughout the two-week installation period.
It involved the coordination of the delivery, transport and distribution of goods around the site to avoid any disruption to passengers and bus operators.
We engaged regularly with the bus station management team to agree timescales, driver routes and vehicle movements in advance of the £82,000-plus project.
The plan considered all bus traffic and one-way systems in place to keep the daily operation of the station on track.
The arrangement also included the storage of parts at the station which were then distributed by trolley to each stand location.
Under the contract, Broxap Street Furniture removed and disposed of existing furniture, replacing it with customised seating and bins. This included the coordination of electrical isolation procedures for systems fixed to the existing seating.
Our Ilford Steel Seat with individual seat positions was chosen for the passenger concourse, with 21 six-seater benches and 19 three-seater benches manufactured for WMCA.
With a matt satin polished seat, the armrests were given a powder coat finish in Traffic Red (RAL 3020).
Twenty-two galvanised steel Derby E Litter Bins, with 120 litre capacity, completed the installation. These were powder coated Traffic Grey (RAL 7042) and finished with red vinyl Tidyman logos and red banding, complementing existing branding at the bus station.
Our communication policy with the bus station team ensured passengers were kept aware of the works and informed of any stand closures, thanks to meetings at the start of each shift.
